SNOW GLAD IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!

Sharing my little nook.
We built our house eighteen years ago after
looking at many house plans
in a whole stack of books.
I really wanted a "nook" and got it.  So now, I'm
sharing it with you, my new blogging friends.

I like red and use it all year -
not just at Christmas time.
Red "cheers" to you.

Another of my collections - snowmen.
We don't see a lot of snow in Western Kentucky,
but I love it and also love these little guys.
This adorable fat snowman sits on fun stoneware -
a gift from a special freind.

Fun peppermint candle ring I found at Michaels this year.
I fill this fat hurricane with real peppermint candy canes
(can't make it through Christmas without a candy cane)
and a red candle to glow while we enjoy casual meals in the kitchen.

Hubby made this little shelf a few
months ago for my seasonal displays.
These snowmen are happy in their new home.

The little guy in the middle decorated our
tree for the first time in 1974.
(I like to date my treasures.)
He's all wooden and his pipe is
almost as big as he is.
My sister brought me the other two cuties.

"All hearts come home for Christmas"

My son gave me this cute little
tea pot a few years ago.

Christmas Red

My daughter was looking at my posting,
"Dinner's Ready" and said,
"Mom, you need some red on your table."

So, I changed out the gold candles and potpourri in the hurricanes
and added red candles and red and gold beads.
I added these little trees (from Pier I years ago)
and the red table runner from a few Christmases ago.

I think she was right - I do need pops of red -
especially with my Christmas china

You might have guessed that we like antiques.
My husband has had a few challenges
refinishing some of our old furniture.
We probably have more old furniture in our
home than we do new.
Old pieces seem to have so much character.

~ If these old things could talk,
what stories would they have to tell? ~

Hand-stitched "Merry Christmas" from a
church bazaar in 1975.  I don't get rid of much
as you can see.  Besides, I love this and it was a gift
from a friend who moved away
and I haven't seen
in twenty-eight years.

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas." ... and feeling like it too!

Sharing my living room decorations with you.

My collection of Snow Babies.
The Christmas card standing in the back was
sent by my husband to his parents when
he was in the U. S. Army station in Germany in 1966.
I wish I could get a good picture of the inside for you to see.
It's a pop-up card - so sweet.

The Snow Baby in the back reading a story to the penguins
was given to me when my Dad passed away in 1998.
It's very special.

The snowman fat snowman plays
"Frosty the Snowman"
This was a gift for a special friend.

Christmas Morn
This little Snow Baby is getting ready to open
her Christmas stocking.  The baby reading the
book is staying toasty warm by the lighted fireplace.

Love the tree after it is up.
But, it is so heavy and such a
hassel to get it up and "dressed".
Guess who gets it up and ready for the decorations.
Yep, Mr. Handy Dandy Hubby.

I have a collection of nutcrackers.  Instead of grouping them
all together this year, they are standing guard here and
there all around the house.

Love this old Christmas card I framed
twenty-five years ago.
It says it all.

Merry, Merry Christmas, y'all.

Christmas wouldn't be the same without this nativity.
Our greatest gift - Jesus Christ, our Savior.

We bought this Lefton set on Christmas Eve in
1970, after finding a surprise check in our mailbox
from Uncle Sam because we had overpaid our
taxes three years before.

New Christmas Treasures

I bought these beautiful hand-painted, hand-carved German Santas
from the estate of a dear friend.
Some of them are signed by the artist.
I don't know the value or these, but they are invaluable to me.

I fell in love with this metal
Santa selling snowcones.
Isn't he adorable!!!

Although this isn't a Christmas decoration, I wanted to share this find with you, too.
This also was in the estate sale.   I have in hanging on my foyer wall.
I love the details and will think of my sweet friend
every time I pass by this beautiful tapestry.

A close up shows the beautiful parrot.  Other animals
peeking out are a squirrel, a rabbit, a leopard, other smaller birds
and some fancy-dressed ladies and gentlemen playing musical instruments.

Now who could resist this Santa on his way with a bundle
of Christmas toys on his back?  Not me!
He is a heavy, cast-iron door stop.
Now, tell me, "How cute is that?"

Dinner's Ready!

We love to have friends in especially during the Christmas season.
The table is set and ready for our first Christmas gathering with friends.

Just love the smell of fresh cut greenery from my yard.
Pine, holly and nandina berries with a glass ornament
tucked in here and there just say
Merry Christmas.
  I keep the arrangement fresh
by arranging the stems in wet oasis foam.

~ My "good" Christmas china ~
Cuthbertson
The Original Christmas Tree
This English China was started in 1980 by a
friend who gave me a coffee mug for Christmas.
Over the years, I have added to my collection
and received new pieces as gifts.

The buffet won't hold much food this year because
these reindeer are taking up their space.
This is my new "add" for this year.

Prancer

He's resting up for the long sleigh ride in a few weeks.

Chargers were a gift several years ago.
They make the table merry and bright!

Sniff - sniff - smells like Christmas!

The crystal snowflakes hanging from the shiny brass chandelier
(looking to change this fixture soon)
were made by my daughter several years ago.
I still like them mixed with greenery.
Some things I never tire of.

There's the tree peeking from the living room.
I'l have to post my living room another day.

I love eating by candlelight.  Don't you?

Come on over for dinner!

Merry Christmas from our house to yours!

I have fixed my mantel pretty much the same year after year.
I have always believed in Santa and I still love the Santas
I have collected over the years.  This wimsical golfer
appeals to my husband, the golfer in our family.

This merry little Santa was given to me
by a sweet teacher at school where I worked for
twenty-two years before retiring two years ago.

This old carved wooden Santa has shared many
Christmases with our family.  He makes me smile
every year when I take him out of the box.
I bought him at a local Christmas Open House in
the days before we had the big chain store.
(I like the big stores, too, but I miss the days
when we had the "big reveal" of special
Christmas decorations at the Sunday
afternoon open houses.)

He's so quaint!  Love him!

A special friend gave this one to me - isn't he sweet!!!
